Cork County Council Update Ahead of Status Orange Snow and Rain Warning

Cork County Council’s Severe Weather Assessment Team convened this morning ahead of a Met Éireann Status Orange Snow and Rain warning for Cork. The warning comes into effect at midnight tonight and will remain in place until midday tomorrow (Thursday, 21st November)

Heavy rain transitioning to sleet and snow is forecast. This will lead to very difficult travelling conditions; poor visibility; likely disruption and delays to public transport; difficult conditions underfoot and animal welfare issues.

Status yellow low temperature, snow-ice warnings will also be in place from 8.00pm this evening

Cork County Council’s road treatment programme will continue treating Priority 1 and Priority 2 routes and will be extended to treat Priority 3 routes as resources allow.

Motorists are asked to avoid unnecessary journeys as driving conditions will be hazardous.  If a journey must be undertaken, please slow down, allow extra time and be aware of other roads users, especially vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists.

  • Be mindful of icy surface conditions
Check on vulnerable and isolated neighbours
Keep your phone charged and take it with you on all journeys
In an emergency dial 999 or 112
