Storm Éowyn has caused unprecedented damage to the nation’s electricity infrastructure, leaving over 560,000 customers without power as of this morning. The severe winds, which continue to track across the country under Met Éireann Status Red and Orange warnings, are expected to lead to even more outages as the day progresses. ESB Networks has described the damage as widespread and extensive, impacting homes, farms, and businesses nationwide.
A Long Road to Power Restoration
ESB Networks crews and partner contractors are poised to begin assessing the damage and working on power restoration once it is deemed safe to do so. However, due to the severity of the storm, it is anticipated that restoration efforts will take several days.
Estimated restoration times (ERTs) will not be available until network assessments are completed, with updates to be posted on www.PowerCheck.ie starting Saturday. Customers are advised to check this platform for the latest information.
ESB Networks’ Customer Contact Centre remains open to provide support, but agents will not be able to give outage details until the network assessment has been carried out.
A Vital Public Safety Warning
In light of the extensive damage, ESB Networks has issued an urgent safety message:
If you come across fallen wires or damaged electricity networks, never touch or approach them as they are live and extremely dangerous.
Any damage to electricity infrastructure should be reported immediately by calling 1800 372 999.
Looking Ahead
With strong winds continuing to batter the country, ESB Networks urges the public to remain vigilant and patient as crews prepare to face challenging conditions to restore power.
