“All Roads Lead To Rome” As Ireland Fans Jet Off From Cork Airport

The Departures Hall at Cork Airport was awash with green and white this morning as nearly 1,000 Irish rugby fans set off for Rome to witness Ireland’s final Six Nations Championship clash against Italy at the Stadio Olimpico.

In a show of unwavering support for the team, a total of six flights – comprising a mix of scheduled services and charters – are ferrying fans to the Italian capital. One charter service departed yesterday, with two additional charters and three scheduled services taking off today. Ryanair and Aer Lingus are operating the scheduled flights, while the charter services have been arranged by local travel agencies, including Lee Travel, Dawson Travel, and sports travel specialists Killester Travel.

Cork Airport has seen a significant surge in passenger traffic this weekend, with figures up 7% compared to the same period last year. Fans departing this morning were among the first to experience the newly refurbished CRAFT bar and restaurant, which officially opened to passengers yesterday. The venue features stylish new décor, increased seating capacity, and a fresh menu highlighting local Cork produce.

Roy O’Driscoll, Deputy Managing Director at Cork Airport, praised the atmosphere at the terminal, stating:

“What a fantastic atmosphere at Cork Airport this morning as almost a thousand fans jet off to Rome for Ireland’s last Six Nations game. This week has been an incredibly busy one on the sporting front, with punters heading to Cheltenham throughout the week. The electric atmosphere will continue throughout the weekend with a feast of traditional Irish music and dance on show for arriving passengers.”

While today marks the busiest day for departures during the St. Patrick’s Bank Holiday weekend, Cork Airport is advising travellers to allow ample time for their journeys. Passengers are recommended to arrive at least 90 minutes before their scheduled departure to ensure a smooth and stress-free airport experience.
