Revenue officers have seized contraband with an estimated value of almost €200,000 during various operations across Ireland over the past week, according to an official statement released today.
The seizures, which took place in Dublin, the Midlands, Rosslare Europort and Waterford, began on 12 May 2025 and were the result of risk profiling and intelligence-led operations.
Among the contraband seized were almost 6kg of herbal cannabis valued at over €110,000, assorted drugs worth nearly €7,500, and 157 counterfeit items estimated at €51,700. Officers also confiscated €7,935 in cash and six weapons in the Midlands region.
The illicit drugs were discovered with the assistance of detector dogs Sam, Ciara and Enzo, whilst Revenue officers examined parcels at premises in Dublin and the Midlands. According to the Revenue statement, the parcels originated from several countries including the UK, US, Canada, Poland, Thailand and France, and were destined for addresses throughout Ireland.
In addition, tobacco and alcohol products with an estimated value of over €14,000 were seized in various operations in the Midlands, Rosslare Europort and Waterford, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of more than €10,000.
On Wednesday, 14 May 2025, a three-month detention order regarding the seized cash was granted by Judge John Cheatle at Gorey District Court.
A Revenue spokesperson confirmed that investigations into all seizures are ongoing, adding that these operations are part of Revenue’s continued efforts to target smuggling and shadow economy activity across the country.
The public and businesses have been encouraged to report any information regarding smuggling by contacting Revenue in confidence on 1800 295 295.
