SunExpress Launches Direct Cork to Izmir Flights with Twice-Weekly Turkish Riviera Service

Cork travellers can now jet off directly to Turkey’s stunning Aegean coast after SunExpress launched its inaugural Cork to Izmir service on Saturday, offering an affordable gateway to the Turkish Riviera with return fares starting from just €259.99.

The new twice-weekly service, operated by the Lufthansa-Turkish Airlines joint venture, marks another milestone for Cork Airport, which continues its impressive growth trajectory with passenger numbers up 14% compared to the same period last year.

Departing passengers on the inaugural flight were treated to Turkish-style snacks at a special celebration hosted by Cork Airport, as the Boeing 737 service officially commenced operations on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Tobias Bracht, Head of Sales for SunExpress, said:

“We are thrilled to launch our very first route from Cork Airport to Izmir, marking a significant milestone in our expansion and our commitment to our Irish operation. This new service not only expands our network but also gives travellers from Cork an exciting new gateway to explore the vibrant culture, history, and experiences that Izmir has to offer.”

SunExpress becomes the ninth and newest airline to operate from Cork Airport, reflecting the facility’s status as Ireland’s fastest-growing airport.

Tara Finn, Head of Aviation Business Development & Communications at Cork Airport, added:

“We’re thrilled to celebrate the inaugural SunExpress flight to İzmir, which is a brilliant addition to our summer route network. Based on market research, we noted very strong demand for a direct Turkish route, and I would like to thank SunExpress for working with us to introduce this new service.”

The destination offers Cork travellers access to Izmir’s blend of history and coastal charm, from the Roman Agora to the scenic Kordon Promenade overlooking the Aegean Sea. History enthusiasts can easily reach nearby Ephesus, the UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring the Library of Celsus and ancient theatre, whilst adventure seekers can enjoy windsurfing in Alacati or explore Urla’s vineyard gastronomy scene.

The airline operates flights departing Cork at 16:40 on Wednesdays and Saturdays, arriving in Izmir at 23:05 local time. Return flights depart Izmir at 12:50, landing back in Cork at 15:40.
