Gardaí Launch Investigation Following Body Discovery in Mallow

Gardaí are investigating all circumstances surrounding the discovery of a body at Ballymaquirk, Mallow, Co. Cork on Saturday evening, 28th June 2025.

The discovery has prompted a comprehensive investigation, with officers particularly keen to trace the movements of a male pedestrian spotted on a busy North Cork route two weeks prior to the body being found.

Investigating officers are specifically appealing for witnesses who may have seen a man walking along the road between Banteer and Kanturk on Friday, 13th June 2025, between 3:30pm and 9:00pm. This stretch of road, familiar to many commuters travelling between Cork city and North Cork towns, would have been busy during the evening rush hour period.

Road users who were travelling through the area during those hours are being urged to check any camera footage they may have, including dash cam recordings, which could prove vital to the investigation.

The appeal comes as Gardaí work to piece together the circumstances leading to the discovery at Ballymaquirk, a rural area on the outskirts of Mallow town.

Anyone with information relating to this incident is asked to contact Kanturk Garda Station on (029) 20680, Mallow Garda Station on (022) 31450, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
