World Championship Angling Event to Hook International Visitors in Cork This Summer

Inniscarra Reservoir will play host to the sport’s finest when 25 teams from 16 nations descend on County Cork for the 44th FIPSed World Championship Coarse Angling for Clubs in July 2025.

The National Coarse Fishing Federation of Ireland (NCFFI) is organising the prestigious international competition, marking the third time Ireland has hosted the club-level championship since the last event in 2017. With anglers from across the globe set to cast their lines along the scenic Inniscarra waters, the event promises significant economic benefits for the region.

Cork County Council has backed the championship through its Economic Development Fund, recognising the tournament’s potential to showcase the area’s sporting facilities and natural beauty to an international audience.

Cllr Mary Linehan Foley, Mayor of the County of Cork:

“Cork County Council is proud to support this world-class angling event at Inniscarra Reservoir. Hosting an international championship of this scale is a real testament to the strength of local collaboration, the quality of our outdoor amenities, and the region’s growing reputation as a destination for sport and recreation. We’re delighted to welcome teams and supporters from across the globe to County Cork and we look forward to the positive impact this event will bring to our communities and local economy.”

The competition will utilise both Inniscarra Reservoir and the Coachford Greenway, a 2.8-kilometre linear park that holds Sport Ireland National Trails status. Originally developed to support the 2014 World Fishing Championship, the Greenway has become a valued recreational facility for locals whilst maintaining its credentials as a recognised international competition venue.

Competition activities begin with official training on Saturday 19 July 2025, building towards the main event on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 July. A highlight for the local community will be the Parade of Nations through Coachford village on Monday 21 July, which will formally open the championship and provide residents with the opportunity to welcome visiting teams.

The tournament is expected to generate more than 2,000 bed nights across local accommodation providers, delivering a welcome boost to businesses throughout the surrounding area during the busy summer season.

ESB and Inland Fisheries Ireland join Cork County Council as key sponsors supporting the event.
