Major Water Main Burst Leaves Ballinhassig Areas Without Supply

A significant burst on a water main in Ballinhassig is causing widespread disruption to water supply across several Cork communities, with repairs potentially taking until tomorrow to complete.

Customers in Ballyheada, Rigsdale, Tooreen, Halfway, Rising Sun and surrounding areas are experiencing supply interruptions following the unplanned outage. Uisce Éireann crews have completed their initial investigations and confirmed the incident involves a complex repair to a large water main.

The utility company has warned that restoration work may continue until tomorrow before all affected properties have their supply fully restored. Even after repairs are completed, it typically takes two to three hours for normal supply to return to all customers, though those at the end of the network or on higher ground may experience longer delays as the system recharges.

Donal O’Keeffe, Uisce Éireann:

“We understand the inconvenience of an unplanned outage and we thank customers for their support while our works continue. Every effort is being made to restore a full water supply as quickly as possible.”

Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct communications for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours. Registration is available on the utility’s Vulnerable Customers page.

Updates on repair progress will be available on water.ie as work continues. Customers can also stay informed through Uisce Éireann’s social media channels @IWCare and @IrishWater on X, Facebook and LinkedIn, or by calling the 24/7 customer care helpline on 1800 278 278.
