Mixed Weather Expected for All Ireland Hurling Final as Cork Face Tipperary

  • Rebel County supporters heading to Croke Park tomorrow should pack waterproofs alongside their red jerseys as changeable conditions are forecast for the All Ireland Hurling Final between Cork and Tipperary.

Met Éireann is warning of a wet start to Sunday across Dublin, with rain extending to northern parts of Leinster through the morning and early afternoon. However, the national weather service suggests conditions may improve as the day progresses, with showers interspersed by “good dry and bright periods” and temperatures reaching a comfortable 18 to 20 degrees.

The timing could prove fortuitous for the 3.30pm throw-in at GAA headquarters. Cathal Nolan, Ireland’s Weather Channel:

“Generally overcast for the All Ireland final but the rain could well hold off during the match itself.”

However, Nolan is also cautioning about the potential for more severe weather earlier in the day: “Further heavy and thundery bursts are possible, with a risk of localised flooding in some parts.”

The forecast represents typical July conditions, with an active low-pressure system dominating Ireland’s weather patterns. For supporters making the journey from Cork, the advice remains to prepare for all eventualities.

Met Éireann’s evening forecast for Saturday shows mostly dry conditions with just a few showers, whilst tonight will see rain in the south spreading slowly northwards. The pollen count is expected to be moderate on Sunday, which may provide some relief for hay fever sufferers among the travelling support.

Looking ahead to next week, both forecasters are predicting an improvement in conditions. Cathal Nolan:

“The majority of next week will see mostly dry conditions, especially in the east and southeast of the country.”

Cork supporters will be hoping the weather proves as favourable as their team’s prospects when they take on Tipperary for hurling’s ultimate prize.

Up the Rebels and safe travels to all heading to Dublin for tomorrow’s decider.
