The Food Safety Authority have expanded yesterday’s major recall of Ballymaguire Foods products to include an additional ready meal, bringing the total number of affected items to over 100 across Irish supermarkets.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland issued Update 1 to alert 2025.34 today, adding Centra Freshly Prepared Chicken Massaman with Sticky Jasmine Rice to the extensive list of prepared meals and side dishes being recalled due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

The expanded recall affects all pack sizes, batch codes and best before dates of the Thai-inspired dish, manufactured at establishment IE 4008 EC. Consumers are urged to check their freezers for this product and dispose of it immediately without consumption.

This update follows yesterday’s Category 1 recall that removed dozens of popular ready meals from Tesco, SuperValu, Centra, Aldi and other retailers nationwide. The original alert covered an extensive range including cottage pies, beef lasagnes, chicken curries, pasta bakes and various side dishes across multiple brands.

The addition of the Chicken Massaman dish demonstrates the ongoing investigation into potential contamination at the production facility. Food safety inspectors continue to trace products that may have been affected during the manufacturing process.

Listeria monocytogenes poses particular risks to vulnerable groups including pregnant women, babies, elderly people and those with compromised immune systems. While most people experience mild flu-like symptoms or gastrointestinal issues such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea, the infection can cause serious complications in rare cases.

The bacteria’s lengthy incubation period means symptoms may not appear for an average of three weeks after consumption, though this can range from three to 70 days. Anyone who has consumed affected products and feels unwell should consult their GP, particularly those in high-risk categories.

Centra stores are displaying point-of-sale notices and removing the Chicken Massaman product from shelves alongside the previously recalled items. The retailer’s extensive Freshly Prepared range was heavily featured in the original recall list.

Wholesalers and distributors have been instructed to contact affected customers immediately, whilst caterers must ensure they do not use any implicated products in food preparation.
