On August 23rd, Age Action, in collaboration with volunteers from Gas Networks Ireland, orchestrated a touching “Garden Blitz” event, revitalising the gardens of six older individuals in the Cork area.
This remarkable effort brought together an army of committed volunteers who toiled to turn unkempt gardens into safe, functional, and beautiful outdoor spaces. From pulling weeds to trimming hedges and cutting grass, the team worked tirelessly to transform these gardens. Their efforts not only enhanced the aesthetics of the outdoor spaces but also made them safer and more accessible for the elderly residents.
Jipe Kelly, Western Programme Manager with Age Action, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Gas Networks Ireland volunteers, saying:
“Their hard work has not only beautified these gardens but has also made them safer and more accessible. It’s heartwarming to see the smiles on their faces as they once again enjoy these outdoor spaces. This event embodies the spirit of caring and community that Age Action strives to promote.”
The collaboration between Age Action and Gas Networks Ireland highlights the positive impact community organisations and businesses can make when working side by side. The event served as a shining example of how joint efforts can significantly improve the quality of life for older members of the community.
The Garden Blitz is part of a series of initiatives that Age Action is involved in to support and uplift the elderly community in Ireland. Their partnership with companies like Gas Networks allows them to reach further and touch more lives.
Following the success of the event in Cork, Age Action’s Garden Blitz will be rolling out in Dublin on Wednesday, 30th August. The organization is set to rejuvenate the gardens of Dublin’s community, spreading the joy and well-being that a beautiful garden can provide.
