Barnardos Cork Shop Calls for Unwanted Christmas Gifts

Barnardos children’s charity is making a heartfelt appeal to the people of Cork to donate any unwanted Christmas gifts to their shops. Whether it’s a jumper that’s a size too small, perfume you already have, or a book you’ve already read, Barnardos is ready to accept these items with open arms. Every contribution, no matter how small, will be greatly appreciated and will directly benefit the charity’s vital work with children and families across Ireland in 2024.

The Barnardos Cork shop, situated at 99 North Main Street in the city, is ready to accept your donations. In addition to the Cork shop, Barnardos has six other shops located across the country in Dublin (Dalkey, Clondalkin, Kilbarrack, and Dun Laoghaire), Carlow, and Wexford, all of which are eagerly accepting donations.

Bernadette Harrington, Barnardos Retail Shops Manager, emphasized the significance of these contributions, saying:

“Over 650 children and families receive support from Barnardos annually in Cork. Services such as Early Years Services and Family Support Services are available in Knocknaheeny, Mahon, Fermoy, Mitchelstown, and Youghal. If you’ve received a gift that doesn’t quite fit or isn’t quite right, we’ll gladly find it a new home in our shop. The funds generated from each donated item will directly support our work across 54 service locations, including family homes, schools, early learning and care settings, and communities. In 2022, Barnardos provided assistance to 20,838 children and their families. Your donations will ensure that our work continues to support those in need because childhood lasts a lifetime.”

This initiative provides a meaningful way for the community to come together and contribute to the well-being of children and families in need. By donating unwanted gifts, you are not only preventing them from going to waste but also making a positive impact on the lives of those who rely on Barnardos’ services.
