On Sunday, September 17th, the streets of Cork will resonate with the empowering sound of female footsteps, as women from all over the city gather to participate in the ever-popular Women’s Mini Marathon. This year, a determined group of women from Network Ireland Cork is joining forces with Cork’s biggest team in the courageous race against cancer, supporting the Mercy University Hospital Foundation’s Cancer Appeal.
The Mini Marathon, now featuring a more accessible 5km route, is not merely a race but a symbol of solidarity, hope, and love. Participants walking, jogging, and running under the #TeamMercy banner include those racing in support of loved ones undergoing treatment, in memory of family or friends, or simply to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Mercy University Hospital for the compassionate care provided to patients and families.
The funds raised from this year’s event are slated to enhance key services and propel advancements in cancer treatment and research. This includes the eagerly anticipated new Mercy Cancer CARE Centre, scheduled for completion by year’s end.

Louise O’Brien, Community Fundraiser with the Mercy University Hospital Foundation, spoke passionately about the impact of the Mini Marathon on the Cancer CARE Centre, stating:
“The long-awaited Mercy Cancer CARE Centre is close to completion; and we could not have reached this point without those who have joined #TeamMercy in the Mini Marathon over the last 14 years; and to them, we are forever grateful.”
Among those expressing their firm commitment to #TeamMercy is Ingrid Seim, President of Network Ireland Cork. Ingrid eloquently stated:
“Network Ireland Cork is a non-profit, voluntary organization which supports the professional and personal development of women from all walks of life. Any of whom could be, or have been, affected by cancer in some way, directly or indirectly. We have pledged to support the Mercy University Hospital Foundation’s Mini Marathon campaign this year, and look forward to what is shaping up to be a fantastic event.”
A day filled with emotions, energy, and camaraderie will not end at the finish line. #TeamMercy is hosting a fun after-party at The Old Oak, where complimentary finger food and cocktails will be served to celebrate and rejuvenate the participants.
Whether you choose to walk or run with #TeamMercy, your involvement will leave an indelible mark. To join, call (021) 4274076 or register at www.mercyhospitalfoundation.ie. You must also register for the event at www.echolive.ie/minimarathon/.
In a world where cancer continues to challenge lives, the Women’s Mini Marathon serves as a beacon of unity and support. By joining hands with Network Ireland Cork, #TeamMercy amplifies a message that resonates far beyond the race – in the journey against cancer, no one walks alone.
