• The HSE has launched a national and international recruitment campaign to support the recruitment of consultants for the Irish health service.

The new campaign showcases the benefits of the new public consultant contract, which carries an attractive salary, a range of training benefits, and the chance to be part of the expanding and improving health service in Ireland.

Anne Marie Hoey, HSE National Director of HR said:

“This new recruitment campaign will specifically focus on recruitment of consultant doctors for our hospital and community services, where we hope to fill over 400 vacancies this year. We’ll be targeting people working in Ireland and internationally, both those who trained in Ireland, and new talent from international locations.

We want to develop awareness of the variety of consultant posts available in Ireland, and make eligible clinicians aware that the new, generously remunerated consultant contract is live. Posts are available now in a range of specialties, and this contract marks another important step in implementing Sláintecare and improving access to our health service.

There is a global shortage of health care workers at the moment, and a fiercely competitive market. As a result, many international health systems around the world are seeking to address this shortage by recruiting from abroad, including the HSE. Our new campaign will commence in the UK and Australia across print media, social media and digital media. International campaigns will take place initially across the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Canada, with tag lines like: ‘You found yourself in North Sydney, now find your roots in South Dublin’.

We hope to build on the HSE’s well-established international recruitment practice, with competitive relocation packages, that has welcomed in excess of 20,000 people, including 3,500 internationally recruited nurses over the last two years.’’

“I welcome this timely campaign by the HSE. We have recruited over 20,000 additional staff to our health service over the last three years, including over 2,000 doctors as we continue to expand and build capacity. The new consultant contract is central to our drive toward universal healthcare and delivering for our growing and aging population the health services they need. I am confident that specialist doctors throughout the world, both those trained in Ireland and elsewhere, will see the benefits of this new contract and grasp the opportunity it presents.”
