Cork Airport Welcomes New Aer Lingus Regional Service to Glasgow and Expanded Bristol Route

Cork Airport is set to enhance its connectivity with the introduction of a new four-times weekly service to Glasgow, operated by Aer Lingus Regional, starting from October 27. This new route, operated exclusively by Emerald Airlines, will run year-round, marking a significant boost to the airport’s winter schedule with an additional 30,000 seats.

The new Cork-Glasgow route is the only service directly linking Glasgow with Munster and the South of Ireland, offering a vital connection between these regions. Glasgow, Scotland’s largest city, is renowned for its vibrant nightlife, rich cultural heritage, and stunning architecture, making it an ideal city break destination. The service will operate on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays, using the environmentally friendly ATR 72-600 turboprop aircraft, which emits 40% less CO2 compared to other regional jets and turboprops.

In addition to the new Glasgow service, Aer Lingus Regional has also announced an increase in its popular Cork-Bristol route, adding 20,000 extra seats. The expanded service will now include a second daily flight on Fridays and Sundays, as well as a new Saturday service, offering passengers more flexibility and convenience.

Niall MacCarthy, Managing Director at Cork Airport, expressed his enthusiasm for the new developments, stating:

“We love the Aer Lingus Regional brand at Cork Airport. It now serves two vibrant UK cities, along with the eight destinations served by the Aer Lingus mainline brand. We are growing strongly, both inbound and outbound, from Cork Airport and more routes and greater connectivity are always welcome, proving that flying from Cork is the easiest flying experience in the country.”

Ian Lough, Head of Commercial at Emerald Airlines, highlighted the significance of the expansion:

“We are delighted to be expanding our network from Cork Airport with the introduction of our new Glasgow service. We are equally pleased to announce the increase in flights between Cork and Bristol. These enhancements underscore our commitment to providing our customers with more travel options and greater convenience. By expanding our offerings from Cork, we aim to meet the growing customer demand and ensure our passengers have even more opportunities when travelling from Cork Airport.”

Tara Finn, Head of Aviation Business Development & Communications at Cork Airport, added:

“Cork Airport will serve over three million passengers this year. We are very ambitious to continue to expand the range of destinations and airlines flying from Cork. We plan to deliver double-digit growth again in 2025 and expect more announcements in the months ahead. Thank you to Aer Lingus Regional for this further vote of confidence in Cork Airport.”

Tickets for the new Cork-Glasgow service are now available for purchase on the Aer Lingus website, with fares starting from €39.99 one-way.
