Cork City Council has announced the launch of its 2025 Anti-Dog Fouling Awareness Campaign, marking a decade of efforts to promote responsible dog ownership across the city.
The campaign, organised by the Cork City Council’s Dog Fouling Committee in partnership with the Litter Management Section, will commence on Friday 9 May with a prize-giving ceremony at St. Luke’s National School on Mahony’s Avenue, winners of this year’s Primary School Poster Competition.
Residents can visit an information stand at Wilton Shopping Centre on Monday 12 May from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., with additional information days planned throughout the city in coming weeks. Details of these events will be shared on Cork City Council’s social media platforms.
The Dog Fouling Sub-Committee aims to change mindsets and behaviours around dog ownership, emphasising personal responsibility as the cornerstone of their campaign. Displays featuring entries from the 2025 poster competition will be exhibited in various shopping centres across Cork.
Additional initiatives planned for the coming weeks include innovative awareness campaigns, presentation of prizes to all participating schools, promotion of responsible dog ownership in parks and green areas, pilot dog walking routes, and installation of additional multipurpose bins to facilitate easier disposal of dog waste.
The Litter Warden Service will intensify anti-dog fouling activities throughout Cork, providing advice to dog owners and issuing fines where necessary.
The Committee has expressed gratitude to responsible dog owners who clean up after their pets, while urging others to consider the impact that failing to do so has on vulnerable community members, including those with visual and mobility impairments, children, wheelchair users, elderly residents, and parents with buggies.
