Cork County Council has announced a new Cost Rental Scheme designed to provide affordable rented accommodation for middle-income earners in Midleton. Applications for the newly built houses at The Fairways, Tir Cluain, will open at 12 noon on Tuesday, 3rd June 2025.
The innovative scheme targets individuals and families who don’t own a home, earn above the threshold for social housing, but struggle to afford private rental accommodation in the current market. Cost Rental provides secure tenancies at below-market rents, offering a long-term housing solution for those caught in the affordability gap.
The development comprises 10 high-quality, A-rated family homes in a sought-after residential location in Midleton. The properties include one two-bedroom house and nine three-bedroom houses, with rents set at least 25% below the private market rates in the area.
Allocation of these homes will be conducted through a lottery system among eligible applicants who have submitted all required documentation. Successful applicants will enter into a tenancy arrangement directly with Cork County Council.
Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Joe Carroll, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating:
“Cork County Council is delighted to announce the launch of this Cost Rental Scheme in Midleton. The development at The Fairways is superbly situated in this popular residential area just a short walk from Midleton’s town centre and all its amenities. This new scheme demonstrates the work that Cork County Council is doing in achieving the targets set by government.”
Applications will be accepted over a two-week period from 12 noon on 3rd June until 12 noon on 16th June 2025. Interested parties must apply through the online application portal on Cork County Council’s website at www.corkcoco.ie.
The website also provides comprehensive information on the scheme’s eligibility criteria, application guidance, required documentation, and details of other upcoming housing initiatives across the county.
