Cork County Council Launches Comprehensive Festival Planning Toolkit to Support Community Events

A new resource promises to make organising festivals and events across Cork County considerably easier, with Cork County Council unveiling a comprehensive toolkit designed to guide communities through every aspect of event planning.

The one-stop guide addresses the full spectrum of festival organisation, from initial licensing and safety requirements through to sustainability practices, marketing strategies, and funding opportunities. The toolkit includes a directory of essential contacts, practical checklists, and access to best practice guidance, aiming to remove barriers that often deter potential organisers.

Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Joe Carroll welcomed the initiative, stating:

“There’s something special about the way festivals and events unite our communities and celebrate what makes each town and village unique. This new toolkit is a fantastic initiative and will be a valuable asset for organisers countywide. It reflects Cork County Council’s wholehearted support for the people behind these great events.”

The toolkit’s highlights include comprehensive guidance on Cork County Council’s Green Festivals Programme, complete with downloadable resources to help reduce environmental impact. Organisers will find clear pathways to various funding streams, including the Arts Grant Scheme, Local Festival & Event Fund, Creative Ireland support, and LEADER funding opportunities.

Additional resources encompass promotional tools and materials from Fáilte Ireland and Discover Ireland, alongside practical advice covering insurance requirements, accessibility planning, and waste management protocols.

Chief Executive of Cork County Council, Moira Murrell emphasised the broader significance of community events:

“Festivals and events are at the heart of life in Cork County. They enrich our communities, support local businesses, and create experiences that stay with people long after the event is over. This new toolkit brings together the knowledge and supports needed to plan exceptional, well-managed events. It is an example of how Cork County Council supports creativity, tourism, and community development. We are proud to support these festivals and events not only through funding, but through the practical, logistical and strategic supports provided by our staff and Municipal Districts.”

The timing appears particularly opportune as communities across Cork County prepare for the upcoming festival season, with many organisers having postponed or scaled back events in recent years.

The ‘Toolkit for Planning and Organising Festivals & Events’ is immediately available through Cork County Council’s website at www.corkcoco.ie, providing free access to all community groups and potential event organisers throughout the county.
