Cork County Council Launches Streetscape Enhancement Scheme for Town Centres

Cork County Council has unveiled a new funding scheme designed to breathe fresh life into town centres across the county, offering grants of up to 100% for property improvements.

The Streetscape Enhancement Scheme, now open for applications, targets occupied buildings in key locations within all eight Municipal Districts of County Cork. Business owners and tenants can apply for financial assistance to spruce up their shopfronts, with commercial premises receiving priority consideration.

The scheme offers four different support measures, with grants covering 60% of works costs and up to 100% for materials. Eligible improvements include fresh paint jobs, upgraded shop signage, and other aesthetic enhancements that contribute to more attractive streetscapes.

Cork County Council is providing guidance on appropriate colour palettes, traditional Irish shopfront conservation, and incorporating the Irish language into signage, ensuring improvements align with local character and heritage.

Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Mary Linehan Foley, welcomed the initiative:

“I whole-heartedly welcome this scheme, which will give a boost to our town centres by supporting businesses and property owners in improving their buildings, and making our town centres more attractive to residents and visitors alike. I encourage business and property owners to engage with Cork County Council to avail of this scheme, and also spread the word among neighbouring businesses as this can lead to increased grant amounts for businesses on the same street.”

Chief Executive Moira Murrell added:

“Streetscape Enhancement Scheme funding will facilitate improvement in the appearance of our town centres, and is one of a number of measures that Cork County Council is employing to strengthen the vibrancy of our towns. I look forward to seeing the impact of this scheme on the streets of our town centres across the county.”

Applications are now being accepted online at www.corkcoco.ie, with a closing date of Friday, 22 August 2025. Successful applicants will be contacted directly following the assessment process.
