Cork’s own singer-songwriter, Cian Ducrot, has earned a prestigious Grammy Award for his role in co-writing Saturn, performed by American artist SZA. The track won Best R&B Song at the 66th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, an honour that recognises the songwriters behind the year’s standout R&B compositions.
Cian, who hails from Passage West, was not only a co-writer on Saturn but also contributed backing vocals to the track. He shared the award with fellow songwriters Rob Bisel, Jared Solomon, and Scott Zhang. This achievement marks a historic moment, as Ducrot becomes the first Irish artist to win in this category, joining legendary past recipients such as Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers, Beyoncé, and Prince.
Released in February 2024, Saturn made a significant impact on the charts, reaching the Top 30 in Ireland, the UK, the US, and multiple other countries. Ducrot’s career has been on a steep rise, with his debut album Victory—released in October 2023—reaching No. 1 in both the Irish and UK charts. His track Heaven also won the RTÉ Choice Music Prize for Irish Song of the Year.
In the summer of 2023, Ducrot headlined major shows across Ireland, including a sold-out concert at Cork’s Virgin Media Park and a performance at Dublin’s St Anne’s Park. His Grammy win further cements his reputation as one of Ireland’s most exciting musical talents on the international stage.
