Limited Places Available for CRITICAL’s Camino Fundraiser

CRITICAL, Ireland’s leading emergency medical charity, is offering limited spaces for participants to join their annual Camino fundraiser, which will take place from September 29th to October 6th, 2024. Now in its third year, this event provides supporters the chance to either bike or hike the famed Camino de Santiago, with all funds raised going towards expanding CRITICAL’s network of volunteer responders.

The charity operates a growing network of doctors, medical professionals, and community volunteers, who respond to serious emergencies such as cardiac arrests and road traffic collisions. To date in 2024, CRITICAL volunteers have responded to more than 828 calls across the country.

Isabel Bartak-Healy, also known as Izzy Showbizzy of Cork’s 96FM, is serving as this year’s ambassador for the Camino event. She expressed her excitement about the challenge and the charity’s mission, stating:

“CRITICAL provides an invaluable service to local communities, and public funds are vital in order to maintain and grow the network of volunteer responders around the country. I am delighted to be involved in this year’s Camino and help raise awareness of the important work carried out by the responders.”

Participants can choose between a 300 km cycle or a 120 km walk. Both groups will be guided by a CRITICAL representative, ensuring a memorable journey through some of Spain’s most iconic landscapes, including historic towns, medieval villages, and beautiful vineyards.

Jeppe Rasmussen, Head of Fundraising at CRITICAL, emphasised the importance of public support, stating:

“Our team of volunteer emergency medical responders is growing rapidly, and it’s thanks to our dedicated supporters right across the country. Events like the Camino give us a unique chance to meet those making a real difference, while also raising crucial funds for our life-saving services.”

Those interested in participating can register over the next two weeks, and donations are being accepted online. To learn more about the event or to make a donation, visit criticalcharity.ie/camino.
