A man in his 20s remains in Cork University Hospital with serious injuries following a single-vehicle e-scooter collision on Barrack Road in Youghal this afternoon.
The incident occurred at approximately 4:30pm on Tuesday, 8th July 2025, on Barrack Road at Magniers Hill. Emergency services, including Gardaí and ambulance crews, responded quickly to the scene following reports of the collision.
The injured man was transported to Cork University Hospital for treatment of what Gardaí have described as serious injuries. His current condition has not been disclosed.
Barrack Road remains closed this evening as Garda technical experts conduct a detailed examination of the collision scene. Local diversions have been put in place to manage traffic flow around the area, with motorists advised to expect delays and plan alternative routes.
The closure affects one of Youghal’s main thoroughfares, with the road likely to remain shut until the technical examination is completed.
Gardaí have issued an urgent appeal for witnesses to come forward with any information about the collision. Officers are particularly keen to speak with anyone who was in the Barrack Road area around 4:30pm today and may have witnessed the incident.
Road users who were travelling through the area at the time and have dash-cam footage or other camera recordings are being asked to make this material available to investigating Gardaí. Such footage could prove crucial in establishing the circumstances that led to the collision.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns about e-scooter safety on Irish roads, particularly as their use continues to grow in urban and suburban areas across Cork.
