New Free Guide Showcases 17 Scenic Trails Across East Cork and Cork Harbour

A new outdoor trails brochure has been launched to help families and visitors explore East Cork and Cork Harbour this summer, featuring 17 walking, wheeling and woodland routes suitable for all ages and abilities.

The ‘Keep Moving in Nature’ guide, created by SECAD Partnership CLG, includes popular destinations such as Fota House, Arboretum and Gardens, the Midleton-Youghal Greenway, and Ballycotton cliff walks. The free A5 brochure uses striking photography and minimal text to make it accessible for those with literacy or eyesight challenges.

Several routes are specifically designed for wheelchair users and families with buggies, including the Youghal Boardwalk, Passage West Greenway, and various boardwalks throughout the region. The guide covers forest strolls through Glenbower, Marlogue and Castlemartyr Woods, coastal hikes along Knockadoon Head, and the buggy-friendly greenway from Carrigaline to Crosshaven.

Elga Ryan, SECAD spokesperson and project coordinator, said:

“This time of year is perfect for getting outdoors, and the guide will inspire you to explore somewhere new each time, and it’s also a great free resource for visitors looking to enjoy East Cork and Cork Harbour. Whether you’re a local looking for a new weekend walk, or you have family or friends visiting the area, the guide is a perfect way to make the most of Cork’s incredible natural offering, while supporting local tourism and encouraging healthy, outdoor activity.”

The brochure is already receiving positive feedback from local businesses. Anna Casey of Sunville B&B in Ballycotton commented: “It is great to have this guide available to our guests. We will use it to encourage them to stay longer and explore more of the region.”

Rosita Murphy, Senior Travel Advisor with Fáilte Ireland, added:

“We received the guides, and the design quality is fabulous. We’re delighted to have them on display.”

The project was funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development through the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme and builds on the success of the 2023 interactive online edition.

Physical copies are available free of charge at tourist offices throughout Cork and at all Cork library branches. The digital version can be downloaded at www.ringofcork.ie/outdoor.

The guide responds to growing demand from both locals and visitors for printed resources promoting rural and nature-based recreation, particularly as outdoor activities continue to gain popularity following recent years.
