Bus Éireann has announced the introduction of Route 31, a brand-new bus service linking Knockraha to Parnell Place Bus Station in Cork City, set to commence operations on Sunday, 27 April.
The new route is aimed at improving reliability, frequency, and accessibility for commuters, students, and visitors. It replaces certain journeys previously covered by Route 214, significantly increasing service to nine daily return trips, up from five, and operating every 90 minutes across seven days a week.
Route 31 will serve several key locations along its path, including:
-
Crestfield Shopping Centre
-
Hazelwood Shopping Centre
-
Glanmire Business Park
-
Glanmire Community College
-
John O’Callaghan Park
The route also ensures enhanced connectivity to Kent Station and Parnell Place, supporting access to both commuter and inter-city rail services, as well as regional and city bus routes. At Kent Station, passengers can connect to Route 205, with links to Cork University Hospital, University College Cork, and Munster Technical University.
Aled Williams, Regional Manager (South) at Bus Éireann, said:
“Bus Éireann is delighted to announce these service enhancements with the introduction of Route 31 (Parnell Place to Knockraha) and updates to Route 214 (CUH to Glanmire). Community is core to Bus Éireann’s purpose to sustainably connect people and communities to who and what matters to them, helping to make life better. These improvements will benefit passengers travelling between Knockraha to Parnell Place as those making onward connections by rail.”
Jeremy Ryan, Director of Public Transport Services at the National Transport Authority, commented:
“The introduction of Route 31 reflects the NTA’s continued commitment to improving public transport options for communities across the country. This new service will provide more frequent and reliable connections for people living and working in the Glanmire and Knockraha areas, making it easier to access education, employment, and essential services in Cork City. We’re pleased to partner with Bus Éireann in delivering enhanced connectivity that supports sustainable travel and regional development”.
