Parliament Bridge Footpath Upgrade Reaches Halfway Mark

Cork City Council has confirmed that footpath upgrade works on Parliament Bridge have reached the halfway point, with one side now complete and works commencing on the opposite footpath.

The popular city centre crossing, which connects South Mall to Sullivan’s Quay, has been undergoing essential footpath improvements as part of the council’s ongoing infrastructure programme. With one side successfully upgraded, contractors have now shifted their focus to the remaining footpath.

The council is urging both pedestrians and motorists to exercise extra caution while navigating the area during the construction phase. Temporary traffic management measures remain in place to ensure safe passage for all road users whilst works continue.

The footpath upgrades form part of Cork City Council’s commitment to improving pedestrian infrastructure throughout the city centre. Parliament Bridge, one of Cork’s busiest river crossings, sees thousands of pedestrians daily, particularly during peak commuting hours.

No completion date has been announced for the remaining works, though the progress to date suggests the project is proceeding on schedule. The upgraded footpaths will provide improved accessibility and a safer walking surface for pedestrians crossing between the city’s commercial districts.

Pedestrians are advised to follow all temporary signage and barriers in place for their safety during the construction period.
