Taoiseach Launches Cinematic Love Letter to Cobh at Sirius Arts Centre

An Taoiseach Micheál Martin officially launched a sweeping new promotional film celebrating Cobh at a special event in the Sirius Arts Centre on Saturday, 21st June 2025. The cinematic tribute, commissioned by local auctioneer Johanna Murphy, represents a groundbreaking investment in promoting the Great Island on a national stage.

The short film, titled “Cobh – Discover the Secret”, was created by Johanna Murphy & Sons and produced by filmmaker Brian Glanby. The launch event brought together community leaders, business owners, and supporters at the historic waterfront arts venue to celebrate what many described as a “transformational” project for the town.

An Taoiseach Micheál Martin praised the initiative at the launch:

“This is a remarkable and heartfelt tribute to a community that continues to grow stronger through vision and collaboration. Johanna’s film is a powerful reminder of the vibrancy, potential, and unique charm of Cobh, a town that represents the very best of Ireland. It is truly inspiring to see a local entrepreneur invest so passionately in celebrating and promoting her hometown.”

The premiere coincided with Johanna Murphy & Sons’ 25th anniversary, marking a significant milestone for founder and director Johanna Murphy, who began her real estate career under her mother’s mentorship. Her mother was present at the event.

Johanna Murphy of Johanna Murphy & Sons explained the inspiration behind the project:

“This video isn’t just a showcase of Cobh – it’s a testimony to our extraordinary island and a celebration of the remarkable transformation we’ve witnessed together. My mum taught me that before you can sell a home, you must sell the magic of the place itself. This film is my gift to Cobh – a beacon for those seeking their perfect life, and a warm embrace for those who carry our island in their hearts while living far from home.”

The project represents a collaborative effort involving Cobh Tidy Towns, Cork County Council, and local leaders including Cllr. Dominic Finn, who played pivotal roles in bringing the vision to life. Shot across Cobh’s most iconic and scenic locations, the film captures the essence of the Great Island’s charm and potential.

The film is now set to be shared widely online and through social platforms, where it is expected to draw national and international attention to Cobh’s unique appeal.
