Turn2Me Shares Four Practical Tips to Help Reduce Stress Over the Bank Holiday Weekend

As Stress Awareness Month continues throughout April, national mental health charity Turn2Me is urging the public to use the upcoming bank holiday weekend as an opportunity to slow down, unwind, and focus on self-care.

With many people feeling the pressure of work, financial worries, and constant digital demands, Turn2Me has shared four simple yet effective ways to make the most of the long weekend and reduce stress levels.

Here are Turn2Me’s four recommended tips:

1. Unplug to Recharge
Switching off from phones, emails, and social media can provide a much-needed mental break. Whether it’s an hour or a whole day, stepping away from screens can ease the mind. A walk outdoors, reading a book, doing yoga, or just soaking up some sunshine can do wonders.

2. Schedule in Some ‘Doing Nothing’ Time
Avoid the urge to over-pack your weekend. Leaving time unscheduled allows space to fully relax — even napping guilt-free. Resting can be just as valuable as ticking off a to-do list.

3. Connect with People You Enjoy Being Around
Spending time with uplifting friends or family members can naturally lift your mood. Whether it’s a coffee chat, a phone call, or a walk together, meaningful connection is a powerful antidote to stress.

4. Try Something New or Creative
Breaking routine can re-energise you. Trying a new hobby, exploring a new place, or getting creative with art or baking are all great ways to refresh your mindset and boost feel-good hormones.

Fiona O’Malley, CEO of Turn2Me, said:

“Stress can creep in when we’re always on the go or juggling too much. The bank holiday is a perfect time to step back, reset, and check in with how we’re feeling. Even small changes — like taking a digital break or spending time in nature — can have a huge impact on our stress levels.”

Turn2Me continues to offer free mental health services across Ireland, including online support groups and up to six free one-to-one counselling sessions for adults.
