Two Hospitalised Following Serious N71 Collision Near Clonakilty


A serious road traffic collision between a car and motorcycle on the N71 at Grillagh, north of Clonakilty, has left two men hospitalised following the incident on Sunday afternoon.

Emergency services responded to the scene shortly after 4:30pm on 29 June 2025, where a motorcyclist in his 20s was treated at the scene before being taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital.

The driver of the car involved, a man in his 70s, was also taken to hospital for assessment following the collision.

The N71 remains closed to traffic as Garda Forensic Collision Investigators conduct a technical examination of the scene. Local diversions have been put in place to manage traffic flow whilst the investigation continues.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward, particularly road users who were travelling on this stretch of the N71 around the time of the collision. Investigators are specifically seeking dash-cam footage or any camera recordings that may have captured the incident.

The collision has caused significant disruption to one of West Cork’s main arterial routes, with motorists advised to expect delays and plan alternative routes where possible.
