Uisce Éireann Night Works Set to Tackle Water Discolouration in Cork’s High East and South-East Areas

Residents in parts of Cork’s High East and High South-East districts should prepare for four nights of water network flushing works beginning next Tuesday evening, as Uisce Éireann continues its city-wide campaign against murky taps.

The utility company’s intensive flushing programme will move into new territories from 4 June 2025, targeting areas including Lotabeg Terrace, Boherboy Road, St Joseph’s Park, and Silverheights estates in the High East zone, alongside Inis Eoghin, Iona Green, and Colmcille Avenue in the High South-East zone.

The night-time operation, typically running from 10pm until the early hours, aims to dislodge sediment and naturally occurring metals like manganese and iron from ageing cast iron pipes before morning demand peaks.

James Goulding, Water Operations Lead for Uisce Éireann, said:

“Our crews continue to make steady progress through our flushing programme schedule for this part of the city, moving onto a new area of the High East and High South-East next week.”

The proactive works form part of Uisce Éireann’s broader network improvement strategy to tackle the discolouration issues that have affected various Cork neighbourhoods. Signage will be erected as crews progress through each area, and residents are advised to monitor updates on water.ie.

Should taps run brown or cloudy during or after the works, Uisce Éireann recommends running cold kitchen taps for up to 20 minutes to restore clarity. The water remains safe to drink once it runs clear, though persistent issues should be reported to 1800 278 278.

The company has thanked customers for their patience as the comprehensive flushing programme continues across Cork City, with crews working systematically through affected districts to improve water quality standards.
