Underwater filmmaker to bring spectacular show to Cork

  • ‘Into the Deep’ Tour is supported by Fair Seas

An Irish cameraman and author who has explored the underwater world of the North Atlantic Ocean will speak about his encounters with some of the largest creatures on earth during two upcoming events in Cork.

‘Into the Deep’ is a one man stage show by Ken O’Sullivan. He created several films and documentary series including ‘North Atlantic: The Dark Ocean’ which aired on RTÉ in May 2023, ‘Ireland’s Ocean’ and ‘Ireland’s Deep Atlantic’ which forms part of the Junior Cert curriculum.

The show features videos, stories and insight into the threats the marine world now faces. It takes place at the Celtic Ross Hotel, Roscarberry on Thursday, October 19th at 7.30pm and The Everyman Theatre in Cork City on Wednesday, November 1st. Tickets start from €18 and are available here.

The speaking tour is supported by Fair Seas, a coalition of leading environmental non-governmental organisations and networks campaigning for strong and ambitious Marine Protected Areas (MPA) legislation to be enacted without delay.

Ken O’Sullivan said:

“I’ve made the show as interactive as possible. There will be videos, stills and the stories behind the footage. The North Atlantic ocean is an incredible place and I’ve been privileged to get up close to enormous whales, monstrous sharks and other spectacular animals. It’s fantastic to have the support of Fair Seas for this tour. My work has a strong focus on conservation and I’m passionate about raising awareness about the climate and nature crises.”

Aoife O’Mahony, Campaign Manager with Fair Seas added:

“Ken O’Sullivan is an incredible ambassador for the ocean, for Fair Seas and we’re delighted to work with him. He has explored the deepest depths of the Atlantic Ocean and has brought it to life on our screens. His work helps us all to understand why it is so important that we protect our marine environment. Ken is a master storyteller and his show promises to be an unforgettable experience.”

As part of its campaign to protect Ireland’s marine environment, Fair Seas has launched a national petition to have the Marine Protected Areas Bill enacted without delay. To sign the petition visit https://only.one/act/30×30-ireland

Fair Seas wants to see binding targets committing to effectively protecting 30% of the seas around Ireland by 2030, with 10% strictly protected. The group is calling for stakeholder engagement at every stage, clear delivery timeframes and a robust management framework, with targeted, site-specific measures to ensure MPAs deliver for nature.
