Residents across several areas south of Cork city are facing continued water supply disruptions today following a significant burst on the water main in Ballinhassig over the weekend.
Uisce Éireann crews are working to complete repairs by approximately 8pm this evening, with customers in Ballyheada, Rigsdale, Tooreen, Halfway, Rising Sun and surrounding areas experiencing ongoing supply issues.
An emergency water supply has been established at O’Callaghan Fireplaces and Stoves in Gogganshill (T12 TK63), located between Halfway and Ballinhassig on the main road. Residents collecting water from the tanker must bring their own containers and boil all water before consumption as a HSE precautionary measure.
Donal O’Keeffe, Uisce Éireann:
“We understand the inconvenience of an unplanned outage and we thank customers for their support while repair works continue. Every effort is being made to restore a full water supply as quickly as possible.”
Following completion of repairs, normal water supply typically returns within two to three hours. However, properties at higher elevations or at the network’s extremities may experience longer restoration times as the system recharges.
Vulnerable customers registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct communications for outages exceeding four hours. Registration and updates are available through the utility’s website, social media channels @IWCare and @IrishWater, or the 24/7 customer helpline on 1800 278 278.
Residents can also sign up for free text alerts using their Eircode at water.ie/water-service-updates for real-time local updates.
The affected areas serve thousands of homes and businesses in the greater Ballinhassig catchment, making this one of the more significant unplanned outages in recent months for the region.
